so i am getting another boat for free. A 8' dingy to get out to my boats at the mooring i was getting sick of having to move the 14' jon boat every time i wanted to go out on my boat. so i asked my neibhor and his brother has one that he doesn't use so he's giving it to me tommaro. what should i get for it first or do with it. i was thinking of getting a motor for it but maybe in the future. Also i do have oars already. i was thinking of getting transom wheels so i don't have to worry about dinging up the hull on the beach.

What to do first? Make sure it floats and doesn't leak - at all! If it's oar powered, you can't afford even a small leak. Second thing - make sure the oar locks fit your oars and are in good shape. Third thing? The wheels sound like a good idea and beat dragging it around. 4th thing, eat your wheaties and get rowing! Congrats on the new boat. Keep going, it gets fun after a dozen!

I'm betting it's going to need a cleaning right off the bat, then check for leaks, rot, waterlogging...

thats a good idea about the trolling motor. also i know it will need a good cleaning and has no hole i know this because the owner before me is crazy about his boats and takes care of them real good. it was in his shed. well you could call it a shed it's a huge place thing in his back yard and he barely used it so he got an inflatable so he doesn't need the dingy. i like the idea of trolling motor.

If you plan to put a motor on it, I'm sure it will need to be properly registered.

You'll need a saltwater grade trolling motor, a freshwater TM won't last.

I would think that a small gas engine would be better than a trolling motor. Like hauling around a motor and heavy battery? Then a trolling motor is they way to go. I think you can find a 5-10 HP outboard that would be MUCH easier to manage.

Just my $.02 worth and probaly only worth $.01 now.......

i might just use oars might just be easier not like the boat is far away from shore within swimming distance.
