Mercrusier 4.3L Tachometer not working correctly

On my boat (in sig) my tachometer technically works but not the way it used to.

I just to make sure it has power and a good ground, both OK.

I still have to check the gray "signal wire" for operation..

But I think its ok because the tach actually moves, I just know it not accurate.

When I am at idle it say 1500 rpms and when at full throttle it says 6000 but then it will fluxuate a little.. I dont just want to spend the money on a new one it it wont fix the problem.

Any advice.

Move the selector switch in the back of the unit to another setting and then back again. If that don't fix it it's the tach. Same problem with mine, had to change it out. They are very sensitive to overtightening in the dash which usually damages them.

Thanks for the reply... I will try that once i get a chance to put the muffs on.

I reset the dial and all appears to be working great
