How do you remove the top bearing on the drive shaft in lower drive?
I made a tool to remove the retainer, but cannot see a way to remove bearing.
The lower drive is making a noise when running. When I turn the prop drive by hand it is quite, but when I turn the drive shaft it is rough and growling.
Any info will be appreciated.

most of the bearings in the drive have to be removed with a press. if you are talking about the bearing on the vertical shaft of the lower gear housing, you must take the prop shaft out and remove the pinoin gear to get the vertical shaft to come out. many special tools and if you replace that bearing you will have to reshim the unit.

Does it have a pre-load pin on the shaft. the pre-load pin pushes down to set the gear lash.
no pin ,the drive shaft is pushed up to set the gear lash.If you have this type it will sound noisy untill you pull the shaft upwards or turn the drive upside down when you spin the shaft.
Per merc, the unit must be disassembled to remove the shaft and then the bearing
