i have 1989 175 hp evinrude,,i noticed today that i have a little gas drip coming from the lower carb ,, its just a little drip does that mean the carb needs to be rebuilt or cleaned ,,I was told by a "mechanic" that cleaning carbs doesnt work that i had to have them rebuilt this was coming from somone who doesnt have a garage and works from craigslist ads ,,i did remove the air cleaner and sprayed the carbs with carb cleaner and noticed tha the drip was much less ,,someone tell me what my next step should be the motor ran great last week just a little hard to start after she was warm ,,

Remove the carbs to clean them...... dissemble , clean and re-assemble. Easy to do even if you do not have a manual but.....you do have a manual don't you??

while you've got the carbs off the motor, go ahead and put a rebuild kit in them, the kits without the floats are only about $20 and easy to do.
