Hi Yall

I needed yalls help here is the deal I purchased a 1984 Ranger 335V (17') bass Boat it came with a running 1979 Evinrude 140 hp . Anyway The motor would spit thru the carbs and die when I put it in gear so I took it to a long time friend that owns a outboard machanic shop he did everything from rebuilding the carns to tearing down the power head and rebuilding it he even changed all the electrical parts. He has rebuilt 3 motors for me over the past 15 years and done an excellent job but this motor he just could not figure out so after $2000.00 (yea I know he gives me killer deals) and 2 months later he calls me up and say he is ready to blow this rude up he can not figure out what the problem is. He says BUT I have a rebuilt 1990 Johnson VRO 70 hp he will throw on keep my motor for parts and call it even.

I was pretty bummed out I have owned numerouse bass boats over the years and 150 hp is the lowest hp I ever had till this 140 I like running 60 mph :) he said the Rude was rated at the prop and this 70 is rated at the power head. So I agree and 2 weeks later I pick up my boat I have taken it out about 6 times and the most I can get out of the motor is 31 mph running a 13 3/4 x 15 prop. So I did some checking and found out I could go to a 13 1/4 x 17 but will only pick up a few miles per hour not worth the investment in a ss prop. So I have decided I am going to sale this motor and buy a 150 hp my question is How much is my motor worth it runs great the VRO has been disconnected (my machanic dont trust em so I mix my gas and oil. motor has a brand new Panther skag protector (I just installed its stainless steel and coat me 125.00) The motor has a fresh rebuilt powerhead ( verifyable) new tune up parts, water pump (impellor) Prop is a aluminum.

It also has tilt and trim and controls ( I want a yamaha so gotta change controls)

I am not looking for KBB I am looking for market value I live in Northern California. The motor I am looking to buy is a 1999 Yamaha v max 150 hp its 4000.00 plus I gotta spend 500.00 on controls and 3-500 on a ss prop so I am looking at getting as much as I can for it . I am already invested 2000.00 in parts and machine work in the other motor not to mention the motor for parts was worth like 1200-1500 bucks.

My buddy is a great guy and he feels he did me a favor and with all the time and the effort he put in on my old motor he did and its apprecieated and I just cant bring myself to tell him this motor is just to slow for me so the plan is to sell and buy the big motor. But I have no idea what these little motors are worth. I looked on ebay and cant find nothing but parts (scary LOL )

Well I hope you experts can steer me in the right direction I plan on listing it on Craigs List but leaving it on the boat so the potential new owner can hear it run.

Thanks in advance

Don't know if it helps but I have seen it on ebay and it looks great. I bought one just today in just as good shape with controls for $700. Now I know I got a steal on it but my boat Mechanic told me (he is a OMC rep) That a 1990 70 hp VRO typically sell here in SC from $800 to $1500 tops. Hope this helps.

It is also a bad time of the year to be trying to sell. Around here they sell for bigger bucks in the spring and bare min in the later part of the summer. Best of luck to you on the sell.
