Starter issue

I am having an issue with my starter. I just recently cleaned out the carbs with a little carb cleaner and the engine ran great. Today I went down to put the battery in after charging it and noticed the engine wont start. I saw that the Bendix gear was not moving upwards to engage the flywheel. The Bendix just sits there and spin, I tried moving it by hand and it feels like its locked into place, any suggestions?

Re: Starter issue

I've had the same problem. Tap the drive gear lightly to free it up and a little lube. It's been fine ever since.

Its rusted or stuck onto the drive shaft ...needs to be freed up ..wash in parafin not petrol and it should be oiled but not oily like a gun barrel ..if its oily it will attract **** and stick
