I am having a lot of trouble with the ends of my plug wires corroding. I have a 1988 Mercury 100hp 2+2 outboard. The ends are copper and corrode to the point of no spark seems like every week.It seems to be worse in the top two cylinders. I always cover the motor when not in use and it isn't getting wet in the water. Is it true that you should not have copper ends on marine wires, but stainless steel. Is there something other than moist air that could be causing this (cracked coil?). We have tried a sealing gel made for this issue and it doesn't help? Anyone have a fix or a type of replacement ends or wire kit I should use? Thanks

Re: Plug wire end corrosion

I was reading a thread today about a similar problem and I think Charlie or Charles B answered with the comment that OEM Merc wires are SS so as to reduce the opportunity for corrosion.
