1990 4.3L Mercruiser - cold start issue

Last 2 mornings, ignition and instrumentation not working. Turn key, no joy all instrumentation and engine ignition. Removed engine cover, pressed re-set on Mercathode and still no joy. Then, without reason, suddenly the instrumentation comes alive and engine is allowed to start. No further issues when running remainder of day - (note that engine is at running temperature rest of day.) Replaced ignition switch, did not fix issue. Thank you for anyone's assistance!

I would be looking to start with at battery cables. They need to be clean and tightened with a wrench (no, wing nuts should not be used).
Then check other main connections, like fuses, or the main harness connection.
When it doesn't work, you have to use a meter to find out where the power (or ground) stop.
