I have a buddy with a mid 70s 70 or 75 h evinrude that will not perform well on the water! in nuetral the motor will run and rev up great but when in gear it dies while giving it throttle but you can eccell and spray brake cleaner into the carbs and it takes off fine but dies when the stuff burns off put seafoam in the fuel and replaced the spark plugs and it is starting to run better. any thoughts?

Brake cleaner in there is horrible. It has no lubrication. Use premixed fuel in a spray bottle. Since when you give it fuel it goes, it's probably a fuel restriction. Clean and rebuild the carbs with OMC kits. Also do a compression check and a spark check on all cylinders.
