I'm looking for a block to replace the 302 that was in the boat. My question is can I just pick up a 70's series 302 and not have to worry if it is marine or not? Would the crank rotation be the same as an auto block?

What drive does it have? I am just kind of "typing out loud" here, but I know my 1991 VP 290 style drive is designed to turn in either direction at full capacity and it is a very simple linkage switcheroo at the drive. I think the other VolvoPenta models (250/270/280) are like that too. Do not go off and make a decision based on this yet though, I hope others will chime in here soon to either concur or set me straight. They may also have other valid reasons to match the original rotation.

Thanks for the reply. It's a Volvo 270 drive that I'm probably going to pull completely out now. I pulled the engine to rebuild so I might as well do the transom while I'm at it.
