got my evinrude 1979 6 hp going but it only stays running with i pump the bulb anyone have an idea?

Check for a fuel line restriction like tank vent closed or fuel filter clogged, if that isn't it then buy a carb kit and do a rebuild because junk in the carb can make it hard for it to get fuel through it.

i had the fuel pump apart put it back together carbs have been cleaned new float new needle a mechanic told me the float is over sized and maybe the wrong one im not sure. he thinks thats my problem another mechanic said its after market float and will be larger so im stumped on what parts to buy

find the right float bro, mine did that and it was the squeeze bulb gone bad.maybe fuel pump too bro if it has one.

heres a blonde moment, everythings new from bulb, gas lines, float, needle, tuned carbs, fuel pump, might have it figured out now.... i must be half blonde...... forgot to have the tank vent open so it was probably vapor locking.... i will find out today.
