Re: no spark, what to do?

you post back with pics. there are too many model years between the first 40hp rude, and now, to even offer any advice other than replace the plugs. there should be a model number on the transom mount also.

the model number is 40153G and the serial number is j04013. I recently replaced the coils points and condensors but when I put it back together one of the coil wires got shorted out by the flywheel. could this have messed up that coil.

How do u test the coils and spark plug wires? we used a test light to see if we were getting power and it showed we were only getting power to oner set of points. we did not replace the wires.

Re: no spark, what to do?

do a search on youtube, there is a great vid on how to test ob coils. wires are just a continuity test....but you will need a cheap multi meter. other than that, try switching the coils from one cyl to the other, just to see if the problem moves with the suspect coil. ......and i can only assume that you read the top secret files at the beginning of this forum? tons of good info there.
