Blowned hose from pump to t-stat housing

Hi,
I have a 1996 fourwinn with 3.0L. The hose from the water pump to the t-stat blew twice. Does this mean the impeller is bad or thermostat is bad or clog? Last I checked the impeller was still in good condition. Hope you all can help. Thanks much,
