I took the check valve (anti siphon valve) off and in the process cross threaded the valve and the elbow that it came out of. The elbow appears to be threaded into the fuel tank. In order to fix the threads or replace the part I have to remove the elbow from the tank but it won't budge. Even though it has threads I am not sure if it is threaded into the tank.

First of all, this isn't an engine problem, and even if it was, it isn't a mercury outboard engine. You're posted on the mercury outboard forum.

Sorry, there are forums mercruiser IOs but none that I can find that this problem fits into perfectly.

What I would suggest is to locate the correct size tap and clean up the threads on the elbow, and get a new anti siphon valve, install it using a little Permatex thread sealant (for fuel fittings) and you should be OK.

ihave the right size tap, but there isn't enough room to use it. Question, the pickup fitting appears to be threaded into the tank but it won't budge, is this a part that can be removed and if so any ideas on freeing it up?
