I have a 1987 Johnson 90, at rpms above 3000 the tach drops to lower rpms and then goes to zero. Wiring has been checked and tach has been replaced. Old tach and new tach act the same. Thanks in advance for your response.

Re: Tachometer drops off at high rpms

Probably not a tach issue. The signal may be dropping. The tach signal comes from the rectifier, which may be malfunctioning. If your engine has no power trim, it will have a rectifier only. If it has power trim the rectifier will be combined with the regulator.
