Merc Dash Shift Cable Adjustment

Hope someone can help with this. I have recently replaced a faulty original Merc throttle/shift lever with a new Teleflex unit. I didn't touch the shift cable to the outdrive only the dash cable which connects to the shift plate and micro switch assembly. I now cant seem to adjust the dash cable so that the shift interrupt switch operates correctly. It either remains closed (engine stopped) or doesn't completely open or spring back into the 'run' position. I have checked the travel or range of the cable and it's within spec as per the manual and I have found lots of info about adjusting the shift cable but not the dash cable.

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Thanks

TT

If the switch is working on land, you need a new lower cable.

you may have to throw the manual away with this one and play it by ear.without looking at it. I would adjust the cables by sight instead. Once you get them close then fine tune them. I had to do this once with an older drive I once had years ago.
