My boat spent the last two months at a large marina with what began as a simple carb rebuild/retune. Well I fianally got fed up with their mess when they told me yesterday that they had just realized that my VRO pump was the problem all along. So I went and picked it up before they could rob me of any more $$. After taking to another mechanic to get a second opinion, i am pretty sure the VRO is shot. Which would explain my lack of fuel pressure. Other than slightly rougher idle with 50:1 premix, are there any other cons? I would rather mix my own fuel so i know exactly whats going in the motor and I have heard the straight fuel pump is far less expensive than the VRO. Has anyone ever done this swap? What parts do I need? The motor is a 1987 Evinrude 70HP model#E70TLCUR. I cant seem to find a straight fuel pump kit, maybe Im just not looking in the right place.

Might try a search, there have been several posts on the subject. You are going to have to drop back to an older model with the pulse type pump to get the part number for the pump.

Try Shop.Evinrude.com and look at pre 1985 70 hp mtrs. They have good parts diagrams.

1984 E70TLCRD is the closest 70 hp that came with a pulse pump.
