80's 7.5 hp Johnson starting when sprayed only.

After sitting for a few weeks this motor only wants to start when spray the carb with fuel/oil mix.
It will start fine every other time. Have the same prob with the 80's suzuki 115 oil injected also. The carbs were rebuilt on both motors with new lines fuel pumps filters priming bulbs etc. They run great exept for having to spray them at the dock after sitting for a few weeks. Is this common?

its not common, and odd for two motors, different brands to behave the same. have you gotten a bad batch of fuel? not sure about the ethanol added fuel, but could that be it?

Fresh fuel the suzuki is oil injected and has separate tank the 7.5 johnson is the trolling motor on the same boat with a 3 gal. portable mixed gas. They both run and idle perfect.

Are both primer bulbs pumped until they become hard and are the throttles advanced far enough?

that sounds like a fuel quality issue, just because of both motors having to be fed fuel into the carbs. if it were one motor , maybe a carb kit, or other basic touble shooting would be the way to go. since its both motors.... look to refresh your fuel....and is it ethanol added???????

The bulbs are hard and the fuel has ethanol. Thanks for your replies maybe the symtom will go away if I use the rig more often.

I have a 1982 7.5 Evinrude. Are you sure your choke is working? How about the compression? Is it low? Are you using the correct plugs(Champion L77CJ4)? Are they fresh and gapped correctly (0.030)?

can you get non ethanol added fuel in your area? you should be able to allow your motors to be not run for more than a few weeks, and not have to spray fuel in the carbs. "real" gas , with a bit of stabilizer in it should cure your prob.
