Re: 5.0 to 5.7
You need to change the head gaskets to brass or composite ones. Steel, automotive, ones will rust out quickly. All the freeze-out plugs need to be replaced. A truck cam should be OK. You need to use marine distributor, starter, water circulation pump, fuel pump, carb, and alternator. In some cases the intake manifold may need to be replaced, depending on the particulat engine and carb. The flame arrestor from the 5.0 should work. Valve covers might need replacement, again depending on the particular engine. The oil pan and dipstick should be OK. The harmonic balance should be OK. The crank pulley may need to be replaced. Take photos of the 5.0 before you pull it apart and out so you'll know where each bracket and hose goes. Use zip-lock bags to keep bolts and brackets separate. Label them. Get a manual for the Mercruiser engine of the series you're installing. It's not really that complicated. Good luck. Hy
