Re: 1992 sea nymph 19 gls

My GLS has 100hp with a whale tail and doesn't pull. My friend the propeller expert says such pulling is sometimes a pitch or trim problem. You may want to wait for other replies to this thread from some of the real experts, or call your motor manufacturer to ask what pitch is recommended. Also, a 70hp might be at the bottom range of power for the boat and my be spinning hard to keep it on plane, thus a trim issue.

Ther should be a small fin above the prop with a nut in the middle, move that a little to the drivers side of the boat adn see what that does, it may take a time or 2 to get t just right to where your steering is neutral.

Re: 1992 sea nymph 19 gls

Hi bucko2365 if you are still around please tell me how the 70hp performed on the gls. I read on iboats specs one year the 19' gls may have came stock w/ a 70, I find that unlikely though.

I'm trying to gather info on 70hp performance with these larger 1000 to 1100 lb tin hulls. I read 18' 750 to 850 lb hulls (starcrafts) are ok with the 70, not sure about the extra weight with the 19' nymphs.

Thanks

Re: 1992 sea nymph 19 gls

My GLS/100hp combo does nicely with 3 people, but I wouldn't want to drop to 70hp. My WOT (5k rpm) is about 30mph, which is plenty fine for me. The GLS is a very, very deep V so creates more drag on planing. The GLS with motor+gas+gear is over 1,500lb. Add 2-3 200lb fishermen (plus 2-4 20lb salmon+ice chest) and the total boat weight gets up there, so the 100hp is good to have.

Hard to believe any 19' would come with a 70HP motor. Some boats are shipped without motors leaving the decision to the dealer. Many of those dealers use the lowest HP that the MFG suggests to keep prices low. Those same dealers often put the cheapest trailers under the boat too.
