Should you keep your engines tilted up or down in the water while sitting at the dock?

I have never kept a boat docked in fresh water but I would keep it up in salt water, the motors in salt seem to have a higher rate of growth and corrosion. This growth will be on the inner channels as well as the outside.

Up if in salt water, down in fresh or on a trailer.
