Hi All,
Traded up hp on my old pontoon. Installed a 1978 Mercury 900 with it's old Mercontrol box. Switch and trim controls are wired separately, so wiring harness is not in play. Mercontrol is semi functional on the lake, but very worn and sloppy despite best attempts to fine tune. I happen to have a really nice Tohatsu box from the early 90s with cables.
1. Strictly on throttle/shift/idle, could the Tohatsu box run the Mercury cables, or could Tohatsu box/cables adapt to Mercury throttle/shift motor arms? Again, no wires in play.
2. If not, buying used Merc controls off ebay for 100 bucks probably pose same risk of being worn. If I buy simple new Merc controls for the 78, which types are compatible, if not all? Thanks, Brad
