can i replace a 1972 70hp evinrude with a 1998 90hp evinrude on a 1972 glastron without making any changes?

I think the connectors in the wiring harness changed sometime in the 80s, so you would either need a new control box or some sort of adaptor.

JB, Wasn't the wiring on the '98 motor was changed in '96 or '97, from the big red plug? He might want to just buy a boat harness and solder it to his ign switch, provided the old motor is mechanical shift. If electric shift, he will need new control as well.

The wiring harness did change in 96 OMC went to a modular harness with the System Check gauge. If the 90 has the controls with it you will want to change out the controls. You should also install the system check gauge or the system check tach. Steering shouldn't be issue although the current motor might not be using tilt tube steering but the bolt holes will be the same for the two outboards.
