1999 Optimax 225- looking to buy one tomorrow, any issues I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your help! I am looking at picking up a 1999 Triton TR-21 with a 1999 Mercury Optimax 225. I have read some horror stories, but talked to my local Mercury certified technician and he said in the 10 years he has been working on Mercs, he has only seen 3 big block Opti's go bad...and that if you look at any brand of motor you could find similar numbers.

ANy info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Get the serial number off motor and call Mercury to see if its had its update or have tech run it and see. The 98-99 did have a lot of problems but with updates they became ok engines. By checking you can see what has been repaired and if its had any powerhead replacments...
