Does my 1990 Johnson TJ25ELESE 25hp Outboard have a charging system? I installed a voltmeter and I get no indication that the battery is being charged while under way.
Yes it does. Its not a large charging system, but enough to keep the battery charged. There is a rectifier on the side of the engine which more than likely is bad. Before doing anything put a handheld multimeter on the battery before you start it, note the voltage, run the engine at high idle for a minute, and you should show a higher voltage than before you started it.
