Preferred engine water temp?

How hot is an '85 force 50 supposed to run? I heard the t-stat is a 120 but ive never changed it. The water coming out of my engine is only at 125 but the motor seems pretty hot. No problems i just want to know. It pumps water very well.

125 is good for the water coming out of the motor. It sounds like there may be blockage somewhere internally though if you can tell that the motor itself is hotter that it should be. Has it been ran in salt water? If so, blockage is most likely the problem, and you'll burn it up eventually if you don't tear it down and clean the saltwater build-up out the water jackets

Tear it down ??? you can do most of the cleaning you need by taking the exhaust cover plate off as this give access to the water chanels ....
