i have a 1975 evinrude 70hp on a pontoon boat can anybody help me on where the water is supposed to come out at and when you bring it off high idle and go to reverse the idle handle wants to go all the way down it wants to kill the motor can anybody help me thanks

You also need a factory service manual. I am running one of these old OMC's too and they are easy to work on and EVERYTHING is explained in the factory manual.

There should be a screw on the front of the controller that controls how far the fast idle lever can go back down.

I think your motor should have some water coming out of the slots at the top of the center section right below the motor cover. You can ad a telltale to these motors easily, it is one of my projects for later this year.
