I posted about this problem eariler but just remembered what led up to the problem of no power and won't throttle up under load....The week before it ran ok but seemed not to go to full rpm.I had just finished running 20 gallons of premix to break in the engine....and was trying out differant props yesterday and after leaving the dock,it would not run past 2000 rpm at wot....The only thing I did the night before was to take a compression check to see if all the cyls were good because when I bought it.it had a blown cyl and I had to rebuild it and I was fearful that I had damaged it while testing....All cyls checked good....But I am concerned that I may have damaged something while turning the engine over with just the kill switch in the off position and all the plugs removed and the wires not grounded and left unplugged...?I remember my mechanic saying something about grounding the wires so as not to burn out something but I forgot about it when performing the test....Could that have caused this problem?...I looked up the trouble shooting guide on line but it dosen't say anything about grounging the spark plug wires?

well I replaced the 2 switch boxes and the trigger and the plugs and checked the spark with a spark tester while on the hose and it looked fine but when in the water it luggs and won't come up to rpms.It feels like it is running in half of the cyls? And has a rough idle.I tried squeezing the primer bulb but it didn't matter. All I could get was 3500 rpm a wot and felt way under powered. Is there something on this 1997 merc 200 efi that is telling the motor to retard the timing ?There is no alarm sounding and the temp was 140+....How can I check it under load at home? Will there be an error code in the computor if it is getting a retard signal?

I'm always telling everyone to test, re-test, then TEST AGAIN, to prove a fault before ordering expensive electrical parts.

A simple DVA test should prove the high speed windings feeding one switchbox has low output. you really need them.

I'd bet money that your old switchboxes and trigger are fine, save them til
