Just bought a 1994 Cheetah 2100 LS, 21 ft., 9 person/1400 pnd. boat with a 4.3 Mercruiser Alpha One. This is my first boat and the previous owner has kept all the maintenance records and has dry docked it every year. Its really in great shape, however, the speedometer does not even move I do not know where to start.....is there a simple fix? I heard there should be a sensor on the hull that indicates the speed and it may be "gummed" up. I have looked every where and still cant find it please help guide me in the right direction.

If you don't have one of those nylon pitot pickups attached to the bottom of your transom, then you probably have a very small hole in the leading edge of your out drive, below where the lower unit can be split from the upper portion. A small drill bit can be hand twisted inside of this hole, and that will usually dislodge any obstruction. Be sure to use a bit smaller than the hole, and only use your fingers to turn it.

Here is a picture of the pitot mounted style that used to be standard:

You probably don't have the pitot shown above but rather the Pitot is built into the outdrive. Follow the tube to its connection to the outdrive.
