Mercruiser verizon 5.7 inboard 1999~1 motor shut down like kill switch pulled

Running along just perfect, one motor shut down at 3400 rpms as if
you turned the key off. No noise or smell.

My husband was a Murcury Master Mechanic/owned a marina. Takes pristine care of his boats/motors, like you wouldn't believe. Watches the gauges like a hawk, hears every little noise a motor makes...

Mechanic/Friend checking out motor in am. Will go through it with a fine tooth comb...
Any ideas to narrow the chase?

check the obvious first - spark/fuel - go from there

I think Bruzzer is thinking electrical...you know where it goes from there.

It just gets his goat how many boat owners neglect their engines & don't have problems.
But then, I see from the posts, there are lots that do...
