This is my first post. I can't even begin to tell you how much this forum has helped me out. Thank you for your time and patience in advance. I have a 95 Alpha1 3.0l/LX. When i bought the boat the owner told me it was so low on gas that the gas gauge would not show a reading. When on my first trip to the gas station it only took 6 gal of fuel i quickly figured out the gauge didn't work and it was almost full of 1-2 year old ethanol gas. So... i found iboats and used the old threads to do the following. Drain old gas, i took off fuel pump to get at bowl fuel filter and changed, filter at carb also changed, i will be installing a fuel water separater to the engine compartment. Do i pour gas back into fuel pump and new water fuel separater before i try and restart? Did i miss anything else? Worried i could burn somthing out or not get engine started if i don't put gas in to prime new stuff. Thanks.. oh i did fix fuel gauge, again, thanks to old posts. Bad ground at send unit.

I have the same engine as you so I just had to replace the fuel/water filter, pump and the carb as well since it was so far gone. Same situation, boat had sat for 3 years and my fuel pump wouldnt even work.

If you changed the filter, added dry gas (even if you think you got most of the old stuff out), cleaned out the fuel pump, changed filter at carb then you should be good to go. There is no need to prime the pump, its not like the fuel pumps on cars that cant be run dry. I would suggest you clean your carb, but I wouldnt do that until you try getting it to run and see how she performs.

I did not know the difference from fuel pump in car as opposed to boat. So it seems like i'm right on with what i am doing. I will wait on carb. Thank you!
