Mercruiser Unknown Model Sterndrive Won't Trim

Hey, I don't know exactly what model this sterndrive is, but the power trim isnt working.

It was working fine last fall, and has been sitting for the winter and most of spring. Now the power trim isnt working. When I hit the button to lower it, the little motor runs, but there is absolutely no movement from the motor. I suspect that there is no fluid in the hydraulic arms, but I have no idea what fluid to use.

Any suggestions on what fluid to use or what my problem might be?

The motor serial is 6858957, so it is an older model...

Did you check to see if the pump is full of fluid?

Mercruiser trim/tilt fluid is what it drinks when thirsty. Any marine dealer should have it. Some Wally Worlds also carry it.

Check fluid level, fill if needed and retest.

If the motor turns, check for leaks everywhere. Make sure there is movement in the cylinders, push/pull the outdrive there should be some flex.

There are lots of posts on this. Just about any weight oil, ATF will work.

The question is...where did the fluid go? And how to fix the leak...
