1986 Yamaha 70hp reverse gear

All of a sudden having problems with getting into reverse gear. When pulling the lever into reverse, the revs incline but won't properly lock into gear. Thus unable to reverse. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just had the same thing happen to my 86 yamaha, I was wondering if you figured out what the problem was? Mine will shift into reverse if I go slow, but still "grinds" the gear. If I try to shift into reverse like normal it wont engage, just "grinds". Forward works fine. Thanks to any suggestions.
