I have an old 9.5 HP Johnson model MQ-14E. It has recently been tuned up and works. I am not sure however what the gas oil mix ratio should be. So far I have mixed it 50:1 but I have only run one 6 gallon tank of gas. I have also seen that maybe it should be 24:1 but I am not sure.

Another question I have about it is a small knob that says "Low speed mixture" and has numbers around it. What does this do? I feel as if the motor is going a little slower than I expected

id mix that one at 24:1. the low speed mixture knob fine tunes your motor for trolling, the lower the number you set it at, the less fuel/oil it gets, higher number is more fuel/oil. always stay to the highest setting that the motor will run ok at.

All MQs use 50:1. The series was introduced in 1964, when OMC began specifying 50:1.

The low speed mixture adjusts the fuel/air mix at idle and troll speeds, as nwcove says. Use the highest number that the engine runs smooth at.
