Purchase of 1985 53' Hilburn

The stringers have rot, the transom has rot, the aft bulkhead has rot. No leaks. She moves under her own power at idle speed. Presently in water - question is if I purchase would she be floatable for a year or two as I save the monies (30K to 35K) to pull and repair stringers/transom/bulkhead, or will I be in the water up to my deck?

You're going to find more problems than you can possibly imagine and it will cost a considerable amount more than you anticipate.

If you don't have the money to fix it now, you have a 99% chance of not having the money then either. That is a huge project to undertake, even if you were retired and had tons of free time.

Don't buy it, I had a friend in Mich who was just going to get a small piece of rot fixed, $12,000.00 later he finally stopped. There are just to many unseen variables. Find something else.

just wondering how much your paying for a rotted ship? if your paying like 10k to start then 30-35k in repairs you might as well just look in the 40-45k for a used good boat and not put up with any hastle. just my .02

granted some one will have to fix her up you wont find a 53' hull in the land fill to often but are you that person?

as for it sinking you will be fine unless it leaks, rotted wood will just cause your interior to fall apart, depending how bad the transome is, will most likely be your cause of not being able to run it.
