bilge pump

Hi, I've just joined this forum. I recently purchased a 1996 cajun esprit 1800. It's the outboard fish/ski model. I need to replace the bilge pump. I can almost see it thru a black 6 inch cover right in front of the transom. Is this the only access? any help would be appreciated.

Yes, That is where you will find the bilge pump. You might find it easier to put a light or flashlight in that area so that you can see the wires, discharge hose and hose clamp a little better.
Also, some bilge pumps have a clip on base which makes it a lot easier to replace the pump and use the base mounted in the boat instead of the new one... That's if you get the identical replacement pump.
If your lucky, who ever put the last pump in might have left enough wire to pull the pump out of the access hole too.
