I have a 5.0 mercruiser in a 20' bowrider. The motor is a new rebuild, it starts at the touch of the key, idles perfectly and smooth. Idles perfectly, while in gear, while in the water. But when I accelerate it acts like it is ready to take off but at about half throttle it boggs down like it's not getting enough fuel ?? I just put a new carb (2 barrel) on it, a new fuel filter, new fuel pump also..
Please give me some idea of what it could be ? The coil, spark plugs, distributor ??? I'm lost...thanks for any help.

You still need to verify fuel pump output, the motor may still be running out of fuel, limiting RPM and power.

Disconnect the fuel line to the carb, point it into a suitable container, crank the motor and watch for a strong flow. You may want to pull the lanyard to kill the ignition. Careful of any spills and fumes.

One common fault is the check valve at the fuel tank sticking, restricting flow.
