30 hp to 40-45 hp

Wondering if I can change out 1986 johnson 30 hp carb to a 40-45 hp I have done this on 9.9- 15hp wondering if I can do this to the 30hp.

Heck, why stop at 45HP? There's more to this than changing a carb. If you want more HP, buy a bigger motor. While the carb on smaller motors fit, you don't always more more HP, just more fuel used.

I am new to the forum and just posted a request for info to upgrade my 9.9 2 stroke to 15 hp.... saw that you said you had done this, can you give me some info on what is needed. I was told it was either the reed valve or the carburetor that could be swapped out to do this. Any assistance appreciated.

Swapping the carbs on older ones will work. There are more extensive changes between the two on later models.

Sell the 30 and buy a 45.

Real easy. Only one part to swap.
