my shift cable on my 1990 120 HP L drive is tweeked, while I'm replacing it I'm also replacing the remote with a volvo remote. the dealer said they didnt make the 15 ft cable anymore that I need but he had a 16 ft that I could just, as he put it, leave a bulge in it and it will work fine. how can that be, if mine is stretched by maybe 1/2" and it wont work? Any words of wisdom while replacing the remote and cable?

Re: longer shift cable

The dealer is full of crap. They still make and sell a 15ft cable.
He's probably only got a 16ft.
You could use a longer cable but any loops or bumps cuts down on performance.J

Re: longer shift cable

thats kind of what I figured, but why if the cable is "stretched" the littest bit will it not shift in both gears?

Sounds like it needs to be adjusted.Never heard of one streching 1/2 in.
Is the shifter loose or the connections loose?J

Re: longer shift cable

i think its a combination of everything, i have the new shifter and am waiting for the new cable, i tried to adjust the other one, all the way in fact, and it would only go in one gear
