I have a 20HP Johnson Seahorse that was given to me. It has not been used in a couple of years, but I did get it started and it appears to be a good motor, except.... When in full throttle it runs at about 1/2 throttle, then suddenly it takes off for approx. 15-30 seconds then slows down again.
Any help would be appreciated.

depending on your budget, the first thing ...cheapest thing to try would be to try running some seafoam through it, it may/may not clean the carb up. new plugs next, then carb kit. if you see no improvement get a $10 spark tester and see if it will jump a spark 3/8 inch. if it wont , go through the compltete process in the top secret files. good luck, and dont give up!

Sounds like a coil is cutting in and out. That can happen with older coils when they warm up.

Back to the basic health check.

Compression
Spark
Fuel delivery
Spark plug condition

Post results and go from there.
