This is my first post, and my first problem of a few (but my most frustrating for now)

i recently got an excellent looking johnson 4hp outboard for free. has not been run in years and the gas in the tank it was hooked up to smelled like nothing ive ever smelled before. closest thing i can think of is oil based paint. if i took the plugs out and poured a bit of mix into the cylinders it started up just fine so i figured the jets were clogged. i took it apart and sure enough, everything was gunked up in the carb.

i unscrewed the high speed nozzle and there was another nozzle under it, a tiny tiny one. that one was brittle and broke. i cant find what that part is or what its called and i cant for the life of me find it in the parts diagrams. anyone know what it is? some kind of idle nozzle or something?

I'm thinking it is probably the idle pickup tube. It picks up fuel for the idle circuit. It doesnt look like its available separately. 396512 is the carb. part number, maybe you can pick one up used somewhere. Good luck.
