I have a 1984 Glastron. About 50% of the time when I put into gear going foward it dies. Other times it goes right in. It goes into reverse fine and nutural fine. Does anyone have any thoughts. 1984 Glastron, Mercruser engin 4 cylender, inbord outbord .

Shift Interrupt Switch, or lower shift cable worn/mis-adjusted. Or both.

+1 Had this fixed on my MerCruiser and it made a HUGE difference. Mine was bad and would kill the engine going into forward or reverse.

chances are likely that your cable is worn/unadjusted to the point where it's not engaging/disengaging the interrupt switch quickly enough as you shift.

Bondo, can a buddy watch the shift interrupt spring at the rear of engine and see that it is activating and causing the motor to stall in the problem above, .........or could it do so without being able to see the interrupt switch kick in?........
