Re: starter design theory

I don't know of any starter solenoids used on todays gas engines that have a seperate ground. Do you have a picture of one, or which engine has one?

Here is a picture of a starter solenoid.

well....in your illustration, if you put 12v to D and B it will pull in the solenoid and 12 volts will flow from A to C and then to ground. The starter I have there is only one solenoid connection and the frame of the starter is the ground. I think this is right....

Naw, Battery power is at A,...
Apply 12v to B energizes both C, 'n D...

If ya have no D, there's no ignition, or fuelpump by-pass fer Startin'...

Re: starter design theory

i'm confused. If you put 12v between D and B it will close the contacts A and C. Yes, 12v P does connect to A.

Re: starter design theory

your not supposed to power D & B.
B gets the yellow/red wire , D used to get the wire going to the coil or elec fuel pump.
Unless of coure your asking about slave solenoids. They do use a ground to operate.
