My Merc 5.7Liter power steering units pulley howls and squeals when the engine is cold. It usually goes away as it warms up, but sometimes doesn't. My eye says the pulley "wobbles" under load.
I checked the belt, which the service manual says should have "some" flex to it between the two top (longest distance) pulleys. Mine does. Can't decide if it is too much or too little. Like my cars, it seems about right. But the PS pump pulley wobbles.

It's a pressed on pulley that needs a special tool to remove or install...
About any Chevy mechanic should be able to Swap it for ya,...
It's a plain ole Chevy pulley....
Nope. mechanic looked at it today (hired for his advice) and thought the belt "seemed" glazed more than he would like to see on a serpentine belt. Am going to replace the belt, and see if the squeal stops.
It's the pulley. Had my mechanic pull the serpentine belt, and the pulley wobbles like a drunken sailor without any belt pressure. Das boot ist kaput (for the time being). He's going to pull the power steering pump and replace the pulley.
