2006 Etec check engine light

Hi, I wonder if anyone have this issue with etec engine.

I have a pair of etec 225hp. The check engine light of 1 engine is on, no alarm/peep and no error code reads from the engine.

Do you hear the warning horn beep when you first turn the key to ON and the 4 lights do the self-test sequence? If so, then the gauge could be bad. Substituting with a known good gauge is the quickest way to troubleshoot.

The CHECK ENGINE light could mean many things but the most common problems are water in the engine fuel filter, charging voltage problems, or a sensor acting up.

Yes, I hear the peeps when I just turn on the engine when it check all the LEDs. This check engine LED was on for awhile, but it was alot dimmer before. Maybe I will try to switch it to the other guage and see if the light still on.

There were some problems with oil level sensors in the oil tank. There is service bulletin on this issue. It may apply ot your motor. Ask the dealer when you have the engine serial number handy. This is the only problem I have ever had with my 2004 75hp ETEC. The dealer should put a computer on it and immediately that will tell him (and you) what the problem is. The EMM rolls it back to about 1000-1100 RPM in safe mode because it thinks it is out of oil. If you have a light on and no roll back of power, it could still be the oil sensor. Mine ran over 40 hrs like that before it began rolling back down to safe mode with a warning horn and red light on. There are no dealers in Fiji, so I checked everything and swapped all kinds of things around before it finally refused to run proiperly - it always rolled back to safe mode. After re-starting, it would roll back after about 30 seconds. Want to trouble shoot it without a dealer? Get a service book and read about the self test LEDs on the side of the motor. The LEDs blink to indicate the fault mode. The fault mode chart is in the book. You'll also need a multi-meter to check voltages and resistance. Don't get the two confused - follow the book carefully. The swapping of gauges may cure the problem, but it may not. On mine, that only fixed it for about 40 hours. Check for loose connections on the gauge and on the top of the motor. I know a guy in Wisconsin who lives and breathes ETECs, so even from Fiji, I'd call him. He's that good!
