I have a line on a 6.9 L diesel engine. Presently I have a 351 (2 in fact) with all the cooling accessories manifolds ect. and also a 350 chev mercruiser also with all the cooling accesories ,manifolds ect.

Any chance of being able to convert the 6.9 L and attach it to the Merc housing and 888 outdrive?

The chance would be you custom fabricating the rear engine mounts/transom bracket, front engine mounts, flywheel coupler, exhaust tubes, and getting marine-versions of all of the electrical stuff (alternator, starter, etc). So basically, it's not an option. I'm not sure what the 351's and 350's have to do with the question. Personally I'd throw in either the 351 or 350 depending on what transom assumbly you currently have. If it is the assembly from a 302, you will need a different y-tube to work with the 351w. If you want to use the 350, you will need to source out a new transom bracket/rear motor mount/exhaust y-tube.

No, even if you could find a bellhousing, coupler, etc to fit the engine, that outdrive will never handle the torque with that size diesel engine.

AND after it's all said and done (even if you could do it) It would be a REAL DOG. (a smelly dog!.....A N/A 6.9 is only rated at about 160 hp)

I own this same engine in my F250, without a turbo it is not worth owning. Almost any gasoline marine engine will be more powerful. No offense but a 470 would be a better option!!!!

Use a 302 or 350 depending on the transom bracket and be done with it. Buy up that 6.9L for resale if it is a 1985 thru 1987. If older than 85 forget it, the blocks crack.
