Welch plug help

Hey guys

Do I really need to clean behind the welch plug? Rest of the carb seemed pretty clean no varnish or crud built up.

I only messed with one back in the day on a snow blower that ironically had a Tecumseh engine/carb on it.

I threaded a screw into the plug and pulled it out.
Then cleaned behind it.
Punched it back in.
And gave it a clear coat of nail polish to help protect and seal.

Whats the right way to do this on this carb?

This game fisher Tecumseh carb seems that it would be hard to put into the jack to punch the plug back it.

Also what do you guys use to punch it back in?

Thanks,
DamianJP

Re: Welch plug help

I always replaced Welch plugs. That is why they are in the carb rebuild kit. I had to drill them in order to pry them out and I seated the new ones with a drift punch.

If you want to claim that you cleaned the carb you gotta clean what is hidden by the welch plugs.

10-4 JB.

Now about the punch. What size and should I hit it in the middle of plug to mushroom it into the carb flat?

Tap sides?

Thanks,

Re: Welch plug help

Never thought about it, but I usually just selected one that is about half the diameter of the plug. I usually smacked it hard enough to flatten the top of the dome.

Good luck. :)
