I burned out my starter, how hard is it to replace on a 2003 4.3L MPI?

My own stupidity created the problem (I'm too embarassed to admit how I did this) but I managed to burn out my starter. I'm trying to figure out how hard it will be to replace. I've done a starter on my old Chevy van so I know the basic concepts. But can anyone tell me how many bolts hold on the starter to the flywheel casing? I can easily see and get to two, but am afraid that there is likely to be one more that will be hard to get to...

Thanks,
Jon

only 2 bolts and maybe a bracket . as far as the room goes , may have to remove the manifold and riser.

Two bolts and 2 nuts for wires,

MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ratchet wrench comes in handy on the back bolt, Just take your time and it will be just fine.

Be ready to hold the starter and start the first bolt is the hardest part, you should have a mini starter so it should be ok.

good luck!

I would not even attempt it in most engine compartments without removing the riser, elbow, and manifold. It is too hard to reach. For the price of a few gaskets and 35 minutes of time, it is WELL worth it to remove them to gain room.

Thanks all. I managed it all in about an hour. I was surprised that the two bolts were on the BOTTOM of the starter, but luckily had just enough clearance to get to them and crank on them. All went well and she started an hour later.

Thanks for the confidence to get me over the edge.
