A friend has a boat slipped and wants his impller changed. We often beach up where we can stand up. My question is can anything be harmed (water entry into gearcase) by doing this in the water?

Water can't get in the gearcase, but it would be difficult because the drive will still be in the water up to the impeller area, even if tilted all the way up. But it can be done if it's just the rubber impeller only. The wear plate and gasket under it could not be changed because of the need for gasket sealer, which might not work well in the water. However, the wear plate might be in good shape, and not need serviced.

Ok, excellent, I just wasn;t sure if the bolt holes went into the gearcase.

Just changed mine from the swim platform in the water at the marina 2 days ago, and it lifted clear of the water.......now where's that magnet I had on the end of a string, that was my favorite crescent wrench (might be funnier if I was kidding :S )
