Hello on my 1960 Johnson seahorse 18 what would be the proper trim adjustment to get the most performance out of the engine it has four different adjustments that you change by hand by simply lifting up the motor on the tilt the lifting up the bar and putting it into the desired notch. also is it better to have it set for different thing such as trolling or getting onto a good plane?

Re: Proper Trim adjustment?

Best way to determine is to start at the bottom and move up. Yes, the position of the 'bar' will affect your "hole sot" (getting up on plane) so get out on the water and experiment. The "stock" answer is probably 2nd one from the bottom, but every setup is different. You'll know it's trimmed too high when the boat tends to porpoise at WOT. If it does that, move it down a notch.
